FAST: Focused Assessment with Sonography for Trauma, Triage & Treatment

Course Objectives

This course will focus on assessing trauma cases with ultrasound and encompass:

  • Standardized "extension" of the physical exam for rapid diagnosis of life threatening abdominal and thoracic conditions
  • Detection of free abdominal fluid, pleural and pericardial effusion, and free air
  • Post-interventional, post-surgical, and critical care monitoring
  • Clinical utility of Abdominal Fluid Scoring System as a means to monitor anemia, homorrhage, and worsening or resolution of abdominal effusion conditions

Who should attend

  • This course is designed for veterinarians and technicians who wish to learn how to quickly assess a trauma case with ultrasound.
  • Recommended prerequisites are the Basic and Soft Tissue courses.
  • Taught by a board certified criticalist.
