Images may go through an additional processing step to enhance features and render them sharper. Some veterinary DR products use an 'unsharp mask' that finds edges on the image and makes them sharper. A better method is to perform Multi-Frequency Domain Tuning in which the x ray image is separated into various types of structures. Each pixel then receives custom enhancements appropriate for the various structures (domain) it is part of. This methodology yields striking x ray image quality far beyond other DR methods, especially with orthopedic studies.
